Hello and welcome from Mr. Hackel!
I hail from the mean streets of Kaukauna, WI. In high school I was active in choir, theatre, and forensics, so my dramatic flair has carried over to my teaching. I remain a massive supporter of the arts to this day.
After graduating in 2013, I took my talents to The University of Wisconsin - Madison, graduating in the spring of 2017 with a double major in history and economics. Keeping the singing train rolling, I got to live the dream of being in a collegiate a cappella group ("Like Pitch Perfect?" Yes. That's a real competition in the movie, and we competed in it. The group is still going strong. Under A-Rest. Music puns. Check them out!)
Almost immediately afterward, I was fortunate enough to enter UW's Master's program in secondary (6th-12th) education, graduating in summer 2018 along with attaining my teaching license.
From there, I spent a year at Menasha High School as an ELL (English language learners) teacher.
It is my great honor and privilege to now call Wisconsin Heights home! I teach Social Studies 8, Modern US History, Law in America, and stole Social Problems from Mr. Steiner. I also serve as Heights' forensics club coach. The 2020-21 school year will be my 2nd at Heights.
Outside school, my hobbies include video games, chess, weightlifting, watching college football, rooting for perennially underperforming Wisconsin pro/college teams and Minnesota Wild hockey. (Chicago? I'll be deep in the cold, cold ground before I root for a team from there!), reading comic books, baking the best Reeseās brownies this side of the Mississippi, playing the occasional bass guitar, and spending time with my fiancee, Jillian, and our mini Goldendoodle, Annie!
Go Vanguards!
